Rushed around too much on July 4? It’s the perfect time for a family breather this San Diego weekend, especially if you’re a music fan in one of the local communities – and even a shopping center – hosting concerts, block parties and other events.
Chula Vista is doing just that at 4 p.m. Friday between E Street and Park Way with a low-rider car show, food trucks and live music. The new Sesame Street Place sponsors the Children’s Zone, and there will be a Padres watch party on a big screen. The community also will recognize “Chula Vista Champions” for their efforts during the pandemic.
Speaking of the Padres, the team embraces some color Friday when they welcome the San Francisco Giants to Petco Park. How? They debut their special “City Connect” uniforms, which give a shoutout not just to surf and sun, but also the city’s close connection to Mexico. Tickets remain for the 6:40 p.m. contest, starting at $32.50. Oh, and there’s Beerfest too, if you’re into that – ha, of course you are! Don’t worry about the classic uni though – Fernando Tatis, et all will don the ‘City Connect” threads only for Friday home games.
Westfield UTC gets in the spirit of the season at noon Saturday and Sunday with the “Celebrate Summer” event throughout the shopping center. Try art activities for the family, indulge in sweet treats, enjoy live music and a larger-than-life sand castle, and possibly win prizes too.
Bayfest 2022 kicks off at the downtown Waterfront Park with a lineup of almost a dozen reggae artists including Tribal Seeds, Atmosphere and Iration. The festival, at 1 p.m. Saturday, includes food, crafts and other vendors. Admission starts at $60.
The San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum in Escondido opens its two-concert “Summer Serenade” series at 5 p.m. Saturday. Admission starts at $15, with discounts for members. Tickets must be obtained online in advance though. The show, billed as a “Family Jamboree,” features Kathryn the Grape and Hullabaloo, along with food trucks and crafts.
Summer Moonlight Cinema at One Paseo in Carmel Valley continues at 7 p.m. Saturday behind Harland Brewing Company. This week see Tangled. The LEGO Movie, Jungle Cruise and Sing 2 follow until the Saturday evening series concludes July 30.
Lots of communities have summer music in the park, but how about Summer Concerts by the Sea? Head to Moonlight Beach in Encinitas for just that, as Gypsy Dreams, a Fleetwood Mac cover band, performs at 3 p.m. Sunday. The concerts take place every other week through Aug. 21.
