Fall is just around the corner! Here are some San Diego events your family will love.

The weather will start to cool down (I hope), and the fall events will begin. San Diego knows how to celebrate in the autumn months too with plenty of family-friendly gatherings in all parts of the region. Aside from the Halloween events or pumpkin patches planned, here are other happenings in the county.

Apple-Picking

Perhaps one of the most popular fall events in San Diego County is the apple-picking. Julian is home to various apple farms that welcome visitors to pick their delicious apples. Volcan Valley Apple Farm is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Fridays through Mondays for walk-in visitors, while Apples and Art Orchards only takes reservations for large groups. There is also Old Peacefield Orchard and Julian Mining Company. Be sure to check the weather and traffic before driving to Julian and a bag for trash as it can turn into a road-trip. You’ll also want to wear comfortable shoes. Don’t forget to stop by a local restaurant for delicious apple pie!

Persimmons-Picking

Want to visit another type of farm? How about persimmons? This is a favorite in my family. The sweet and plump fruits come from the same family as dates, and become ripe during the fall. Little Quail Ranch in Valley Center is home to Fuyu King Persimmons and welcomes visitors to stop by. For the persimmons farm, you’ll want to bring a small step ladder, scissors and a bucket or bag. The farm will take reservations beginning Oct. 10.

Día de los Muertos in Old Town

Old Town San Diego knows how to celebrate Día de los Muertos, a holiday where we remember loved ones who have passed away. This year, the community will celebrate Oct. 29 and Oct. 30 with altars throughout and live entertainment, delicious food, crafts and more. For more information, go to dayofthedeadsd.com.

Pacific Beachfest

On Oct. 1, Pacific Beach will host its annual Beachfest featuring a run, live entertainment and a Kids Zone. Runners can either participate in a half-marathon, 5K or 1K for children. Other events include a fish taco contest, volleyball and plenty of shopping from local vendors. For more information, go to pacificbeachfest.org.

San Diego Restaurant Week

What better way to spend time with the family than with delicious food at a discounted rate? San Diego Restaurant Week returns this year from Sept. 25 to Oct. 2 with more than 100 eateries participating in breakfast, lunch and dinner deals. For more information, go to sandiegorestaurantweek.com.
