At the request of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the San Diego Humane Society’s emergency response team deployed early Friday to assist with animal rescues in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian.
A team of four members left San Diego at 5:30 a.m., for a 10-day deployment to Florida where they will conduct water operations, as well as search and rescue of animals on land.
Two of members are flying to Charlotte to pick up RVs and drive to a staging location in Lee County, which bore the brunt of the storm.
The other two will fly directly to Florida where field responders are waiting to access areas affected by Hurricane Ian.
The team will work with ASPCA’s disaster response crews to help animals impacted by Hurricane Ian.
