The National Weather Service office in San Diego said Monday the scorching heat wave will continue through Friday evening for all areas except the mountains and deserts.

“It is another hot one with many areas at noon running warmer than yesterday,” the weather service said, adding that “strong high pressure to the north will continue the heat wave through the end of the work week.”

The excessive heat warning that has been in effect since last week was extended through Friday for the coast and inland valleys, and through Thursday for the mountains and deserts.

Highs temperatures each day during the heat wave are expected to be 85 to 95 along the coast, 96 to 106 in the inland valley, 91 to 102 in the mountains and 108 to 116 in the deserts.

A Flex Alert to conserve power is in effect for 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, and additional alerts are likely to be called before the heat wave ends.

The expected high heat led the San Diego Padres to announce they would be offering complimentary cold bottled water to ticketed fans — while supplies last — at the Labor Day afternoon game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Fans can also pick up free sunscreen at aid stations throughout Petco Park.
