Increased patrols by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department were planned over the Labor Day weekend in search of impaired drivers.

Deputies across the county were on the lookout for drivers suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol beginning Friday through Labor Day.

During last year’s Labor Day weekend, 111 drivers were arrested in the county for DUI, sheriff’s officials said.

So far this year, 4,450 drivers have been arrested across the county on suspicion of impaired driving.

Funding for the Labor Day weekend patrols was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
