A 52 year-old woman was in custody Friday after allegedly striking and killing a 82-year-old bicycle rider in the Rolando Village neighborhood of San Diego.
Officers from the San Diego Police Department were called at 2:55 p.m. Thursday to the 4400 block of College Avenue.
Officer Robert Heims said a woman driving a Cadillac SRX northbound on College Avenue made an unsafe turn to the right and struck the bicyclist with the right front of her car.
The bicyclist sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
The driver left the scene but after approximately one hour returned and was arrested by officers on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, Heims said.
According to police, driving under the influence was not a factor in the collision.
The department’s Traffic Division is investigating the collision. Anyone with information related to it was asked to call 858-495-7800 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
