Gusty Santa Ana winds created dangerous driving conditions on Interstate 8 in the mountains on Thursday, with at least two semi-trucks overturned near Crestwood.

The California Highway Patrol closed the freeway to high-profile vehicles from Alpine to the Imperial County line.

The National Weather Service office in San Diego reported winds of 15 to 25 mph along the coast, with gusts up to 40 mph. Inland gusts of 65 and higher are forecast.

A 90 mph gust was reported near Banning in Riverside County.

“Santa Ana winds will continue this morning and afternoon, then decrease this evening,” the weather service said. “Winds will be strong and widespread across SoCal, even outside of the typically windy locations.”
