Authorities Friday publicly identified a motorist shot dead this week during a confrontation with another driver in Chula Vista.

Eduardo Villasenor, 38, of Chula Vista was the victim of the fatal encounter in the 500 block of E Street shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday, according to police.

The fatal gunfire erupted after the two men pulled over and approached each other for unknown reasons, Chula Vista police Sgt. Anthony Molina said. The unidentified shooter then got back into his car and fled west toward Interstate 5.

Officers arrived to find the wounded victim in the driver’s seat of his vehicle. Medics took Villasenor to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The reason for the deadly confrontation remains unknown.

The gunman, described as a bald-headed, light-skinned man, drove a gray older-model four-door Nissan Altima with a dent on the rear driver’s-side quarter panel, and stickers on the driver’s side of the trunk and the passenger-side rear window.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
