Two men were injured early Thursday, one fatally, in a solo car crash near Fairbanks Ranch Country Club, authorities reported.

The fatal wreck occurred shortly after 1:30 a.m. when a 42-year-old San Diego man lost control of the BMW M550 he was driving on Rancho Diegueno Road, north of Alydar Corte, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The southbound sedan veered off the roadway and struck two trees, killing the driver at the scene. His name was withheld pending family notification.

Paramedics took a 43-year-old Arizona resident who had been riding in the vehicle to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, CHP public affairs Officer Hunter Gerber said.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
