Though the fall hot weather was short-lived, it did leave new records for parts of San Diego County Wednesday.
Records fell in Oceanside Harbor, Vista and Chula Vista, according to the National Weather Service.
The high of 90 near the water in Oceanside beat the high of 82 from 1977, while in Vista the high of 98 outstripped the high of 95 almost 60 years ago, in 1964.
Chula Vista, also with a high of 98, saw the oldest record fall. The previous hottest Oct. 19 was 92, all the way back in 1940.
The NWS also noted the disparities in some hot areas, such as near Del Mar. East of Interstate 5, the highs reached 94, but with a short trek west around noon temperatures fell 20 degrees.
Periods of Santa Ana winds are expected to end early Thursday, with winds peaking Wednesday.
The weather is expected to change abruptly beginning Thursday, with the forecast pointing to periods of gusty west to northwest winds in the mountains and deserts by the weekend and a slight chance of showers Saturday night into early Sunday.
