Civita, the 230-acre urban-infill village in Mission Valley, has been named the “Best Urban Master-Planned Community of the Year” by the Building Industry Association of San Diego.
Sudberry Properties has transformed a 70-year-old sand and gravel quarry into a vibrant community where homes, stores and businesses are interspersed with parklands, open space, pedestrian-friendly streets and walkways.
Developed in partnership with the Grant family, which had mined the property since the early 20th century, Civita welcomed its first residents in 2013 and continues to grow.
In addition to the overall award, Purl at Civita, the latest apartment community, was honored in a total of five categories for multi-family communities, including best architectural design. Purl features 434 luxury apartments and 18,000 square feet of street-level retail space.
Over the years, Civita has received more than 60 local, regional and national honors.
“Civita’s unprecedented volume of major architectural honors reflects our commitment to design excellence,” said Marco Sessa, senior vice president of Sudberry Properties. “This award was particularly gratifying since Purl was constructed and opened in the middle of the pandemic. Despite numerous challenges, it has been a huge success.”
