Assemblymember Marie Waldron announced Tuesday the allocation of $8 million in state funding to build a new station on Interstate 15 for the Deer Spring Fire Protection District.

The money will be used to build a new facility at the intersection of Deer Springs Road and Interstate 15 north of Escondido.

Waldron said the new station will improve emergency response along the I-15 corridor, which has seen a significant increase in population and business in recent years.

“I’ve been working for years to improve safety and wildfire resilience in the rural areas of San Diego County,” Waldron said.

“I am happy that my efforts to secure these funds were successful and that the Deer Springs Fire Protection District will be able to protect cities and rural communities throughout the county for decades to come,” she added.

The district currently has three fire stations located in Escondido and San Marcos.

Waldron, a Republican, represents the 75th Assembly District in east San Diego County.
