The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series takes on the Mercedes-AMG One. The latter is the company’s first hypercar and the most powerful series production model ever built. Does the Black Series stand a chance or should it better have stayed at home?

The GT Black Series was, for a while, AMG’s most potent model. It came with 730 PS (720 HP) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) to run from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.2 seconds The needle of the speedometer goes all the way to 325 km/h (202 mph).

But last year, Mercedes launched the AMG GT 63 S E Performance with all its 843 PS (831 HP) and 1,470 Nm (1,084 lb-ft), secured by a PHEV drivetrain, the first ever rolling off the assembly line in Affalterbach.

It was only a matter of time for this one as well until something faster and stronger came along. Mercedes finally revealed the One, the hypercar the company has been promising since 2017. Delayed and controversial, marked by technical issues, it is still the most potent and the fastest of them all. It’s got 1,063 PS (1,049 HP) provided by a system inspired by that of the Formula 1 racing cars. There is a 1.6-liter turbo V6 and there are three electric motors that make it flash its way to 100 km/h (62) in 2.9 seconds. The One (and only) takes 7.0 seconds to hit 200 km/h (124 mph) and 15.6 to get to 300 (186 mph).

Where does it stop, you might ask. The speed limit is of 352 km/h (219 mph). With these figures in its resume, the Mercedes-AMG One will probably make the GT Black Series eat its dust. At least that’s what the official specs show. But is that drag race that easily predictable? It is really going to be an absolute humiliation for the Black Series? It’s not a snail in disguise either.
