Lifeguards found 10 life vests on an small abandoned panga boat near the Ocean Beach Pier, triggering a search of the area for migrants on Friday morning.
The panga was found 100 yards north of the pier around 5:20 a.m. with the life jackets and 40 gallons of fuel.
The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department notified Border Patrol officials, who will search the beach and surrounding area.
No other information was immediately released.
