A Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 Tuned by Brabus Ploughs the Autobahn

The Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 is a two-ton weapon in itself. And that’s before any tweaks and tricks. It becomes a land missile with some help from Brabus. But how does it behave on the autobahn once it drives out of the tuner’s shop? The guys from AutoTopNL took the premium SUV to a no-speed limit sector of the motorway in Germany and here are the figures they managed to hit.

The video uploaded on YouTube starts abruptly, without the usual walkaround AutoTopNL used to run at the beginning of their videos. The driver of the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 tuned by Brabus presses the throttle and the 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine starts to growl like some wounded beast. The car runs on the impeccable tarmac of the autobahn and the needle of the speedometer hits 200 km/h fast (124 mph) almost instantly.

The second speed attempt stops after the speedometer indicates 254 km/h (158 mph). But the fun is not over yet. Because this car can obviously do more.

261 km/h is the fastest the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 tuned by Brabus goes in the video. Yes, it is way past its stock top speed, which stops at 250 km/h. But Brabus sprinkled some magic on that V8, coupled with the company’s nine-speed automatic and the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system, and granted it with a top speed of 280 km/h.

And that is far from being the only thing that changed about the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 premium high-performance SUV, of course. Horsepower went through the roof as well, from the standard 612 PS (603 HP) to 800, as the name of the tuned vehicle implies, Brabus 800. The torque hit 1,000 Nm (738 lb-ft) instead of the standard 850 Nm (627 lb-ft). And as you’d expect, the acceleration times changed as well. The GLS now does the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) run in 3.8 seconds. That is 0.4 seconds faster than a stock version.
