A small plane crash landed on the shoreline of Carlsbad State Beach Thursday and the three people aboard got out safely.

Just before 8 a.m., the single-engine aircraft came down near the 7100 block of Carlsbad Boulevard, according to the Carlsbad Police Department.

Authorities aid the three people on the plane were able to get out safely and were not injured.

The plane had departed Montgomery Field in San Diego and was headed to John Wayne Airport in Orange County, the Federal Aviation Administration reported.

The pilot reported the aircraft had experienced engine trouble, according to authorities at the scene.

The FAA along with local agencies are investigating the incident.
