2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE Facelift Makes Debut, It’s Electrified

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE Facelift and its coupe sibling have just made their online debut. All versions are electrified, feature updated tech and are more capable in the off-road.

The range starts with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a permanently excited electric motor for a total of 386 PS (381 HP) and 649 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. Energy is stored in a 23.3-kWh battery, but the official range is still to be revealed.

A new PHEV is part of the lineup, the GLE 400e 4MATIC. It combines a 2.0-liter engine and a 100 kW electric motor for a total of 280 PS and 600 Nm of torque.  It does 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.1 seconds and hits a top speed of 210 km/h.

The entry-level AMG GLE is getting some extra oomph. The 53 variant with the 3.0-liter L6 will have to handle 435 PS (429 HP). The 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time now drops to 5.0 seconds. Meanwhile, there is still a 612 horsepower output for the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4MATIC+.

The diesels are also getting a 48-volt system.

Mercedes updated the front fascia, bringing a new horizontal bar that splits the radiator grille in two. The AMG version features, of course, the Panamericana grille with vertical slats. Headlights with a different light signature flank that grille.

The SUV gets updates on board as well. There is a new three-spoke steering wheel in there with touch sensors on the side spokes. That is one of the ways the driver will be able to command the infotainment and other features. Customers can choose Piano Black Flowing Lines, chrome, and carbon fiber inserts in the dashboard.

They will also be able to tick the box for the Off-Road Engineering Package. That one brings an extra 30-millimeter (1.2-inch) ground clearance and an underride guard. When the Off-Road Mode is active, the central display will show a view from under the front of the car, thus the hood becoming virtually transparent.

The GLE now features a towing capacity of 3.5 tons. The navigation system also gets the Trailer route function, which considers the extra weight and width.

The all-new Mercedes-Benz GLE Facelift will hit European showrooms in July 2023.
